Do you have a Utah conviction that you would like to get reduced? Having assisted thousands of people just like you, we are skilled at conviction reduction, and we want to use these exceptional skills to help you.

Your prior conviction may show up in a background check. Most employers run background checks, as do many banks and landlords, as well as regular citizens. Having your conviction reduced may lessen the impact of such a background check and lead you on a path to eventual expungement and other opportunities.

We are the leading conviction reduction law firm in the country. We specialize in helping people move toward new beginnings unconstrained by their past.

Benefits of Conviction Reduction in Utah

By having your conviction reduced by even one degree the waiting period for expungement can be reduced, thus making you eligible for expungement much sooner. Additionally, if you have a felony conviction, we recommend reducing it to a misdemeanor even if it was expunged, because licensing agencies are able to see expunged records. This may make you eligible for licenses that you would otherwise be ineligible for and will increase your chances of being granted a license. The first step to reducing your conviction is taking this eligibility evaluation.

Reduction to the Next Lower Degree of Offense - Law in UT

Pursuant to Utah Penal Code Section 76-3-402, you can apply to have your conviction reduced by up to two degrees in class. In order to have your offense reduced to the next lower degree of offense you must have been sentenced to probation, completed your probation sentence, and paid all court ordered restitution. Additionally, if your offense requires that you register as a sex offender, then you must complete the registration requirements and the registration must have expired before you can file to have the conviction reduced. If you are required to register as a sex offender to for life, you will not be granted a reduction for the offenses that requires you to register as a sex offender. To have your offense reduced by two degrees the prosecutor must specifically agree in writing or on court record. The title of the offense for which the reduction is made will not be changed. Once these requirements are met, the court must still find that reducing the offense to a lower degree is in the interest of justice.
