Katherine Fernandez Rundle serves as the State Attorney for Florida's 11th Judicial Court in Miami-Dade County. She presides over the fourth largest district attorney's office in the United States with over 1,000 employees and 300 prosecutors. Katherine attended Miami Palmetto High School, received her undergraduate degree at the University of Miami, and earned her law degree from the University of Cambridge Law School, England. Katherine served for 15 years as an Assistant State Attorney in Florida. She would later be appointed Chief Assistant and served as counsel to the Grand Jury in Dade County. During her time as Chief Assistant she was responsible for hundreds of cases involving murder and capital offenses along with several reforms in the area of juvenile justice.
Katherine was elected State Attorney in 1993 and has remained at the position consecutively, re-elected five times. Katherine's election in 1993 marked the first female Hispanic State Attorney in Florida. She was also the first and only Hispanic female to serve on the State Constitutional Revision Council. Katherine's father serves as her main influence and was the first Hispanic Judge in Miami. He also founded the Cuban American Bar Association, which is the largest legal organization of its kind. Katherine served as president of the organization in 1993.
