King County was founded in 1852 and was named for William Rufus King - the 13th Vice President of the United States who died while in office in 1852- from 1852 to 2005. Daniel T. Satterberg is the 2014 District Attorney, also known as Prosecuting Attorney, for King County. Satterberg was elected to the position of Prosecuting Attorney in 2007 and ran unopposed for the seat in 2010. Satterberg started his career as a trial attorney in the Criminal Division where he served as the office's first gang prosecutor, while also serving as the Special Assault Unit and the Drug Unit. Satterberg began working with the Prosecutor's Office working as the Chief of Staff for the late Norm Maleng, who was the former King County Prosecuting Attorney, mentor and close friend of Satterberg. During his 17 years as the Chief of Staff, Satterberg was responsible for overseeing 225 attorneys, 240 staff, and maintaining the following on an estimated budget of $62 million:
Satterberg is a King County native, born and raised in South King County, and attended Highline High School. He spent his college years at the University of Washington where he received his Bachelors degree in Political Science and Journalism, and his Juris Doctor. While attending Washington University Law School, Satterberg meet his wife, Linda, a corporate lawyer with whom he has two children.
