Bucks County is named for the English County of Buckinghamshire – abbreviated to Bucks, which was the hometown of William Penn, the Quaker diplomat and real estate entrepreneur for whom Pennsylvania was named. Heckler started his career in the District Attorney's office working as the Assistant District Attorney in Bucks County from 1972 until 1979. From 1979 to 1986 Heckler served as an advisor and educator to all of Pennsylvania's District Attorneys before leaving to serve in the Pennsylvania General Assembly from 1986 to 1997.
Heckler's academic achievements are as impressive as his resume. He received his bachelor's degree from Yale University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law.
