Robert Johnson serves as the 2014 District Attorney of Bronx County, which is a position that he has held since January 1989. Johnson is the first African American District Attorney in the entire history of the state of New York and has been the longest serving DA in the county's history. Johnson was born and raised in the Bronx. He attended James Monroe High School, received his undergraduate degree from The City College of New York, and gained a law degree from New York University School of Law.
Johnson began working for the Legal Aid Society as a criminal defense attorney shortly after receiving his Juris Doctor (J.D.). Thereafter, Johnson began working as an Assistant District Attorney for Bronx County, which is a position that he held for eight years. In 1986, Johnson became a Judge and then Justice of the New York State Supreme Court.

Johnson is an active participant in several community outreach programs focused on the prevention of crime and the increasing of the quality of life for Bronx residents. Johnson has helped to implement the following programs: The Youth Trial Advocacy Program: a program that provides students in high school the opportunity to participate in mock courts to develop debate skills. -C.O.N.C.E.P.T. (Creating Opportunities Necessary to Crate Empowered Positive Teens): a program tasked with informing middle school students and their parents about the dangers of drugs, gangs, and guns.
