We have sealed or expunged more than 5,000 criminal records in California, and we are recognized across the country as experts on expungement. In fact, we helped define California’s current expungement law.
California Expungement, record sealing, and other post-conviction relief proceedings can be very complicated depending on the facts of the original case and if the District Attorney objects to the court granting the relief. It often takes the ability to argue the facts and the law in front of a judge.
Plus, making it even more confusing is the fact that the application process varies from court to court. Hiring the expungement attorneys at RecordGone.com ensures that you do not suffer unnecessary delays because of simple mistakes.
A large percentage of expungement requests that are denied are denied in California because of mistakes made by people who do not have experience with expungement law or dealing with the specific court that is handling their case.
Expungement, which is often called a 1203.4 Dismissal, is a form of post conviction relief that is initiated by the filing of a motion with the court that convicted the person. The motion asks the judge to reopen the case, review the facts and the content of the motion— as well as any evidence that is submitted, and then to take away the finding of guilt and dismiss the court case.
Our law firm can handle all of the details, including doing the research, formulating a strategy for success and making sure everything goes well at court. We have done it for more than 5,000 Californians.
The simplest and fastest way to see which of the CA services are available for your case is to take our confidential online eligibility test. Below is a brief summary for some of the California services we offer. For more information, please visit the service page for the service you are eligible for in CA.
If you received probation as your sentence, you are most likely eligible for an expungement in California. This is true if your offense was an infraction, a misdemeanor, or even a felony. You may also be eligible to expunge California DUI convictions.
While it makes the expungement process a bit more challenging, you can even expunge your case if you violated your probation. To learn more about expungements pursuant to Penal Code 1203.4. in California please view our page on CA expungements.
As mentioned above, if you have a case that resulted in a felony conviction, for which you were sentenced to probation, the best option is usually an expungement.
However, if the felony resulted in time served in state prison, expungement is not an option, but you could be eligible for a Certificate of Rehabilitation. Learn more about what your options are on our California felony expungement page or by taking the eligibility test.
If you have a felony on your record, you could be able to get that case reduced to a misdemeanor on your record. Many felony cases that ended in probation can be reduced to misdemeanors pursuant to Penal Code section 17(B).
Reducing a felony to a misdemeanor restores firearm rights that were lost because of that conviction. This service is beneficial even if you are getting the case expunged, and we offer the reduction as part of a felony expungement at no additional cost if you are eligible.
If the case was a felony that resulted in time being served in state prison, a Certificate of Rehabilitation, pursuant to Penal Code 4851, will likely be an option. Obtaining a Certificate of Rehabilitation will create an automatic application for a pardon from the governor, put a positive mark on your record and open you up to potential professional and vocational licenses that were previously unavailable.
If a person is still on probation, it is possible to return to court and ask the judge to end the probation sentence. We generally advise clients wait until they have completed half of their probation term before petitioning the court for this relief. Once the probation is terminated, the person can usually request that the record be expunged. Please see our probation termination service for more information.
If you were arrested in California and the arrest did not result in a conviction or some form of diversion program, then your arrest is probably eligible for an arrest record sealing pursuant to Penal Code section 851.8.
To get an arrest record sealed, the judge must find that "no reasonable cause exists to believe that the arrestee committed the offense for which the arrest was made." This is a high standard to meet, but for a small fee we would be glad to review all of your case records and let you know your chances of success.

"If you think your crime is too serious to be expunged guess again. My case was on the more serious side and they successfully got it dismissed. Couldn't be happier." - Scott A. - Los Angeles, CA
"Recordgone is wonderful. I made a mistake when I was young and thought that I would have to pay for the mistake for the rest of my life. Recordgone helped to change all that. They helped to have the offense expunged from my record and now finding a new job is much easier. Thank you Recordgone." - Bonnie M. - San Diego, CA
"Don't waste your money going anywhere else. I spent twice the amount with my own attorney, then I had to attend the court appearance in person, causing me to take time off from work, only to have my case rejected. I waited a year, and then I contacted RecordGone to see if they could help me. With an easy payment plan, I got started... Their lawyers handled it all. They kept me up to date on all that was going on, and I never had to call or email them to ask about my case. We even had a continuance, which the lawyers led me to believe was typical and told me not to worry. The next court case came around and all 4 felony counts were reduced to misdemeanors, and dismissed (expunged). What a relief!" - Jim M. - Ventura, CA
"They were referred to me by a friend who works for the court, so I knew that they were good. My first call to attorney Matthew Higbee showed me why my friend recommend them. He was very helpful and he knows everything about expungement and criminal records. Well, my record is now clear and I have my firearm rights back. Thank you Mr. Higbee and thank you to your staff. Great job." Brad S. - Modesto, CA
