Sometimes the worst part of being convicted of a crime in Washington is the part of the sentence that nobody mentioned— the lifetime of being subject to discrimination because of the record, even decades after it occurred.
Fortunately, the Washington law allows some former offenders to ask the court to clear their criminal record so that they can be freed of the harmful consequences of the criminal record. Vacating a conviction or sealing a criminal record in Washington requires filing a petition with the court in the county where the arrest or conviction occurred. The petition will ask the judge to either seal the records of your case or vacate the conviction, depending on what you are eligible for. A sealed case in Washington is not accessible to the public and is completely removed from your criminal record. If your conviction is vacated, you are no longer considered convicted of the offense.
We can handle all aspects of the case from start to finish, including appearing for you in court, so that you will not have to in most cases.
We also can go beyond just clearing your record at the court and with the official agencies that hold your records. We offer an exclusive service called the Expedited Record Clearance Update service, which will help clear your record from more than 600 private background check companies. Even after the judge grants your case, the records can remain inaccurately in their system for months or even years. By having us update your records with these companies, it can help you find employment or housing by not having to explain why your sealed or vacated case showed up on a report.
