Bergen County was founded in 1683 and is located in Northern New Jersey. Bergen County is the state’s most populous county with a population size of 905,116. According to Bergen County’s official website, it was one of the first four original counties of New Jersey. The Native Americans of the Lenape nation inhabited the area prior to European settlement. Furthermore, Bergen County is the site of several battles and troop movements during the Revolutionary War. John L. Molinelli is the 2014 Bergen County District Attorney, also referred to as the County Prosecutor. Molinelli, a Democrat, has held the position of Bergen County Prosecutor since 2002 and oversees the direction of 200 employees. Molinelli's has an impressive work history from working as a partner at his own firm, Maycher & Molinelli, serving as the Borough Attorney at Borough of Woodcliff Lake, and as a Member at Herten Sheridan Cevasco Bottinelli & Litt. During his tenure, Molinelli is responsible for creating the most progressive computer-crimes unit, whose investigations have helped lead to the arrest of offenders of hate crimes.
Additionally, under Molinelli's direction, the Bergen County Prosecutor's office has created "specialized squads that are available to assist the municipal departments in the investigation of crimes calling for increased personnel, specialized equipment, technical know-how or highly specialized training. Such crimes include arson, homicide, sex crimes, drug trafficking, traditional organized crime, domestic violence, insurance fraud and most recently, computer crimes. These squads give each municipality the ability to bring additional resources to bear when presented with particularly challenging cases or particularly dangerous offenders."(i)
Molinelli attended Rutgers, The State of New Jersey-Newark for his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1979, and received his Juris Doctor from New York Law School in 1982.
